You raise a very valid point, and it is very hard when I watched the video through the link of the girl being sold off for $2000 to an old man, where she will invariably undergo rape and slavery. Right after I saw a news item pop up about the American journalist in Myanmar who was found guilty, his trial in prison and not in court. Journalist working in danger zones can either abide by the laws and the whims of the governments, usually harsh dictatorships, or be killed or imprisoned. The journalist here may have had a “minder” following him, and may not have even been a CNN western reporter but an Afghan who shot the video, with a Taliban watcher standing by. Sorry that this is not a new practice either. You can watch he true 2011 documentary The Love Crimes of Kabul on HBO or Escape from Saudi, or a number of other documentaries. Sadly, this practice is not new and is ongoing. Speaking up against these child brides is the main action you are taking. Sadly, the United States is one of only three countries that will not pass a law against child marriage (the other two are Yemen and Haiti). What the man did int he video is horrific and illegal. In the United States, parents can legally allow their teenage child to be “sold off” (though not for money, but it is still trafficking). Maybe you should be outraged at our own government that still allows Child Marriage. It should be a federal law, a human right, but it state by state in the US. Where I am in ‘red’ Texas, the minimum age is 16, while Alaska is 14. But some very “liberal” and “blue” states, like Massachusetts and California and Washington State have no minimum, meaning a parent can agree to marry a nine year old girl off legally. In many places like Afghanistan and India there are arranged marriages, all illegal. But in America it is not illegal, and we are only one of two countries that doesn’t recognized the UN Childs Rights Bill. Bring your outrage home, at least you can make a difference here. Thank you for your contribution.
