Yes, we are all grappling with it and contributing to the conservation brings out more of the complexities surrounding this issue. You spark some good thoughts. I particularly like the idea of “coercing compliance” from “trapped” H1-B workers. Another reason to bring them in is because it means instant wealth expansion that the rich and quite frankly America is dependent on. These tech workers and engineers which we don’t produce enough of for the last thirty years plus, as well as doctors like Viv’s parents, are the cream of the crop in their own country, which paid for their upbringing, social programs, education.
Then they arrive here with great struggle in obtaining that gold ticket visa, which is more a lottery system given the number of candidates in India for example, worker incredibly hard but still make a high wage, are grateful typically internally, and their children born in the typically have no clue what their parents experienced, the painful struggle and isolation to achieve that they did. Instead, they tend to be self-indulgent and successful only because they were pushed and pushed by their parents who lived fearful of failure in the US upon arrival and fearful of rejection. Vivek is an ungrateful whelp, with no humility, which Americans hate.
In that light, even Trump knows how to show a form humility (I know, I can’t believe I’m saying this). But Trump’s idea of a “witch hunt” repeated and over and over shows how “they” are out to get him, how “those elites” are out to attack him, and thus jealous of him for his successfully fighting them off. Trump is showing a form of humility and grievance at being attacked that his base feels, an injustice for being “white” while not succeeding and having the rich elites hold them down. Of course that isn’t the case in reality with Trump, I realize it. But his base wants to feel their own reality, which Trump is reflecting. Liberals don’t understand the politics of grievance, which conservative and slave=owners have been using for 350 years to divide the races and split the votes and power.
