You describe the “perfect” experience of “self-gaslighting.” Thank you for sharing your life and the experiential reasoning developed by living the complete disconnect between societal beliefs of equality versus people’s daily realities that conflict deeply with that. So glad you weren’t harmed physically as many workmen can be trapped in a relationship without an education. Emotionally though, you were harmed, beaten down in a roll you daily rebelled against in meaningful ways (dishes, toilet paper refill) where he never bent and only expected you to break. Those “trivial” things are more powerful in breaking a person than realized.
