Emmett Till and Carol’s Monstrous Inaccuracies

The neoslavery States in Red were required by law to keep schools segregated; the green ones were required by law not to segregate schools, the opposite. Class, take out your number 2 pencil and write an essay describing what the two different sets of underlying principles those laws came from. Which set of principles best describes the values of democracy? What values do the other set of principles describe? Are they contrary to democracy? Why were they allowed to exist? You have 1 hour at a minimum and the rest of your life as a maximum to answer these questions.

The story about Emmett Till’s horrific murder arises again, restless in its afterlife, as Carol Bryant has died. The problem with the narrative it the way it was told, putting blame in places in may not belong and wrapping an era of brutality up in a pretty bow. Such is the northern media narrative, the ghost of Union of the civil war, still determined to keep us united when vast divisions would be better accepted as the only way forward.

Who after all on the pro-equality side of a civil rights movement wants to see our fellow black Americans united with the type of vile murderous scum that killed Emmett Till? Isn’t subjecting them to the idea of “re-union” under a unified state of United States really forcing them to be a part of a supremacist group of whites who still express no desire but to dominate them?

I for one am glad never to speak to the horrific descendants who grew up and embrace such fanaticism and hope I never reunite with them either. I’m not looking forward at all to hearing Joe Biden talk about “uniting” a divide and “healing” the nation one side has so thoroughly tried to destroy and subjugate when dealing with the other. Emmett Till’s death was just one in a long string of brutal murders, usually done to groups of black Americans by groups of armed white men.
