What the literal enslaved humans (blacks and browns) whose labor is owned by the states and federal government and then rent out to Walmart as literal slaves (“slaves of involuntary servants, the loophole for slavery”). Of the many of articles I researched, a couple of them said Walmart is the biggest users of modern day slave labor. Read “Slavery by any name is wrong” in the Guardian to get a sense. I’m still amazed that both the Louisiana and California people voted to keep slavery in their state constitutions and how many people don’t understand what it is. 54 percent in California November 5, 2024 and 62 percent in Louisiana in 2022 of voters—probably mostly white rightwing. The black women in California who worked so hard to end slavery felt absolutely betrayed. All slaves before 1865 were prisoners. Now some prisoners are literally enslaved but not all prisoners are slaves. Walmart is one of the biggest users of enslaved capture labor it rents or leases.
