We are no where near past any sense of racism or a place where race matters. I’ve been reading a piece on how modern lynching— racial terrorism conducted for political repression of blacks— never stopped after the last lynching in 1981 in Georgia. It appears that Jill Collen Jefferson, a lawyer and founder of Julian, a civil rights organization, has tracked at least 8 lynchings in Mississippi after 2000. The sheriff simple marks them down as “suicide”, but she has cause to believe otherwise by investigation. I hope to find out more, though I don’t doubt her account thus far. It just shows how far we’ve not come. So it is going to be relevant for a long time to come.
