Things get worse all the time too. While technology improves, human depravity committed with the advance military technology gets worse. When the new English longbow was introduced at the Battle of Crecy 1346 some estimates show as high as from 15,000- 30.000 dead on the French side and only 100 -300 dead on the English longbow side. That is a great “advancement” in technology but a horrible increase in those killed. By the end of World War Two, it was estimated that 35.000 humans were killed every day for the entire length of the war. That is clear “progress” in efficacy of weaponry, but does it represent moral progress? And what if we ask the 2 million homeless and displaced in the Ukraine or Gaza, the Ukrainians or Palestinians, and we listened to them from the last three years of war. Would they agree with you that advancements in weaponry, progress, have made an improvement in their lives? Politicians celebrate victories on the winning side, while the dead cannot speak.
Survivor Bias from wars always favors the living as agreeing that “progress is good,” but Murdered Bias always shows from the silence of the graves of those dead that the living are wrong.
