Finding common cause doesn’t mean living common cause. How the land was built makes a difference, which is by one’s own white hands or by using slave hands. The value of the land the American Revolutionaries would inherit once they stole it from the tyrant king successfully had different meanings and different values of wealth attached to new titles, depending on the state. Those title be made under the new government’s regulations, representing all new American debt, and not British title debt.

The Revolutionaries had to throw out the British regulations to establish new title structures that fell under American laws, more specifically new state titles to recognize titles like in the state of Virginia. In that regard, the state was more like a mini-country, setting its own laws and having to adjust them to these new ideals.

Yet in a way, the struggle was the same, first against the repressive force of the tyrant, named George the Third, but after the Revolution, or successful insurrection, it would’ve been much harder to convert large land-owning Virginians with slaves into hard-working Puritans in Pennsylvania or Massachusetts, who had built the state with their own hands and very few slaves.
