There were many fundamental problems exposed by the debate, but they didn’t involve Trump. Full disclosure: Trump is an existential threat to democracy and must at all costs be beaten in November. But we knew that already. We also knew that fact-checking Trump is worthless. If you think Trump, after nine full years of doing anything but lying, wasn’t going to lie and needed a babysitter fact-checker, then that is delusional and we knew that going into the debate. It’s not even possible that his followers and supporters would have thought if fact-checked: Oh, I think President Trumped just lied, I’m going to switch my vote. No. They’ve been awake for 9 years too. They like him because he won’t back down and show weakness when liberals call him a liar, ever. And he doesn’t That makes him unreasonable and psychotic, but we knew that too. What makes me upset is that the best candidate is Kamala Harris, she’s nicer, tougher, and more competent than both old me combined. But the white leaders of both parties don’t want the best candidate because of how she was born and not who she’s become and spent her life become: a superstar overachiever morally decent person capable of running the country.
