White Skin Color Blindness

When it comes to your own skin color, you might not notice it. You simply “belong” to a tribe of perceptively equal people and that is a powerful visual safety zone, especially when no symbolism is being worn or seen on t-shirts or tattoos. The world’s a dangerous place and if something goes wrong, you can count your skin to save your hide. So, it’s the last thing you might unconsciously analyze about yourself when being around people of the same skin tone, during the first few minutes at least, even though it’s the first thing you unconsciously notice when being around a different skin color.

Stepping out of line with that obvious marker is one of the reasons (though not the main one I hope) Kanye is in deep trouble with his swastika posting. He’s “abandoning” his race. He’s loudly pronouncing his taste for Hitler, a man whose killed blacks as well Jews, though he just couldn’t find enough of them in Germany at the time. His regime was very fond of the South and admired how they enforced segregation freely (hint: by lynching and sharecropping and eliminating black Americans from vote and taking part in the political system). In fact, Hitler died, but the one-party run South went like that until 1965, far outlasting him.
