A True-ish Story of the Creation of the Roaming Surgical Strikers
[This fictional “story” describes the environment the Memphis Scorpion squad was created in, though it is a modern nationwide response to “do something” about rising crime rates the public keeps hearing about. It is meant to display the background thinking that constructed the mission of the squad that killed Tyre Nichols, not the actual creation which you can read about. And it is meant to display a more metaphysical story to get at the creation of structured expectation they were acting under, a more powerful condition in structuring police reaction than the “bad apples” theory. The name says it all: SCORPION. This squad was created by the highest police management coordinating with mayors and council members to go to strike down crime as it happens. The public demanded it.
It was a high-powered concept set up with navy seal-like elite capacities with a mission to precisely sting with its poisonous tail. The SCORPION may be a creature that is small, but humans fear it when they it, and know that one quick lash from its venomous tail, hovering over its head in preparation for attack, and that person could die.
