It’s so embarrassing being cowed that I just quit being a Democrat. I won’t be switching to the party of radical extremists Republicans. Racism, antisemitism, misogyny, and insurrectionist violence just aren’t my thing.
But I admire their tenuous and radical fight when glancing over this three-day vote for who will lead the House of Representatives in Congress. Isn’t the drive “The Twenty” are displaying admirable and what representative democracy should look like? (Minus of course the above abusive hatred.)
Think about how weak ninnied the Democrats appear as exposed by this crisis the first week of 2023 where the radical rights can’t elect Kevin McCarthy, the inevitable choice? Twenty radicals get to drive the party and wag the dog. Twenty — that’s two-zero out of 435 representatives get to hold the Republicans captive and by extension the whole House hostage. So effectively, twenty extremists are running Congress, or not letting Congress run, until their demands are met. And they want the whole country to know it.
The only bit I saw is when Matt Gaetz stood up and gave a 4-minute impassioned speech, very clearly and well done, dominating another MAGA-ista for House leader. He was so clear, made a great case. (Full disclosure, it didn’t…
