The DeSantisized Updates On Black History School Violence
Florida and Texas Overthrowing of History and Violent Containment of Learning
“Mind-closing” is the generic term for the long campaign against black Americans in the neoslavery states. Though not contained to just the Jim Crow region, as underfunded schools litter the country’s inner cities by deliberate long-term taxation zoning for funding privileged schools, this area has always been extra harsh on black Americans as it had a great head start. It is really a testbed for what’s to spread.
The updates from just last week’s message on Texas, show that the Houston Independent School District had made the one of the harsher signals to minority repression in a symbolic tour de force: it said it will close school libraries and turn them into detention and disciplinary rooms, or in-school mini-prisons. In these predominately black and brown minority schools, those minority students, who have always had very high disciplinary rates as a group, will now more easily get tossed into the quasi-slammer under Governor Abbott’s hand chosen super-disciplinarian and chief Mike Miles.
Mr. Miles (pronounced “not mild at all”) answers directly to his boss Governor Abbott, who literally overthrew the elected school board and installed Chief Miles directly with no vote from the people. The people’s vote was…
