The biggest problem with your joke may have been it wasn’t funny. I didn’t feel “triggered”, or offended. It’s just that the pay off was unclear. The last bit didn’t “land” as they say in comedy: “they got their funding right.” What funding? What does it mean got it right? I have no idea, hence no laughter for the pay off.
