That is a perceive and very accurate summary of Trump’s conservative MAGA America First confederate vision of history. It didn’t start on July 4, but 1492. By 1509, Columbus’ son, DIego Colon, was a governor in the new colony of San Domingo, head of the new Spanish empire but complaining that things were going well, since the “natives” didn’t make for good slaves and weren’t working hard enough. I think that is the official date white privilege began.
But there is another world view felt in the belly of the founders, and reflected in two speakers unconnected with the founders after 1850 who correctly saw the intent and mean of natural inherent rights, a phrase in the VIrginia bill of rights and Virginia constitution passed both before June 2022 by Monroe and Madison (and others). The first speaker said we have to look at the Constitution through the eyes of the Declaration of Independence because that tells us about unalienable rights, and to why slavery should be abolished down South, like it already had been up North by 1804 by laws and state constitutions. The second speaker called the Declaration a “freedom document.” These wretched political friends, the first named Abe Lincoln, the second named Fredrick Douglass. Their insight was accurate. Trump’s, Diego’s, President Jefferson Davis (of the CSA), were not. Their idea were and are am imposition and forced false belief over the actual repressed enslaved history of black slaves and today minorities. They are not Americans, no matter what they tell you. If you believe them and there ceaseless re-writing of history, in phrase like “America was a white man’s country” then you probably belong gin their camp. If you believe what a former slave and the highest paid public speaker in the 19th century said, that it is a Freedom Document, then you fall in Douglass’ camp. I with him. If he says the Fourth of July is for Americans and black American ex-slaves like him, then I’m sticking to that view of history.
Thanks for sharing the tale about Rocky and how he was conned and blindsided. He said he wasn’t political but I sure hope he is now after getting lied to and suckered by Trump’s American First campaign.
