We need to not be shy about calling a spade a spade: white Mississippians are socialists. You certainly were brainwashed into thinking that white supremacists are not socialists. If you think they aren’t, please join me as I try and reverse my own socialized gaslighting.

We know thanks to the reign of Donald Junior Trump that whatever he accuses the Democrats of being is actually a projection of himself, his values, and rightwing Republican values. So, when you take this description of their enemy he and other radical Republicans make about the Democrats, you really need to stop and flip around what they’re saying and apply it directly to the Republican Party.

It’s called The Shadow. The famous psychologist Carl Jung, student of Freud who broke with him, invented the term to mean the project of that part of the self that is irrational, that we can’t deal with within, and we see or transpose onto our internal “enemy.” Thus, we can see our own negative traits that bother us deep inside being projection onto the other person, our “enemy.” We become all good since we rip our negative parts out and put them on our enemy, who can belittle and defeat.

This “enemy projection” allows us to navigate the world “better” making us feel…
