OK, I didn’t think of this. That the movie takes place during slave trading times makes it worse. A black girl thrown overboard during slave trading times gives up her tongue (in the original she cut it out) to be with this white male aristocratic who she can’t talk to and serves his pleasures with her body (she can’t express her thoughts to him since her tongue is gone). Maybe she should be Sally Hemings and he should be Thomas Jefferson on his way back from university in France? That makes sense. OK, the whole thing is wrong now. You’ve ruined it for me. Thanks for your insights, more valuable then this film.
