Nope, don’t waste your empathy on him. his problems are very recent, and I remember the decades previous when he acted with malice and intent against any sort of benefit that went to the poor or black Americans. Only recently he denied the filibuster was of white racist origin. Since then I’ve run across the fact it was not only created by white racists to stop talk and action one abolition and ending slavery before the civil war, but it was used constantly to stop talk and action that would introducing fair voting, anti-lynching legislation, etc. for every decade afterwards. He knew this and lied. And he wielded it relentlessly for that purpose.
