Non-compete clauses have gotten out of control, weaponized now against low wage workers. And why not, they don’t have any power. They are modern contracts to lock workers in. That’s why we can compare them to slavecropping methods of debt and crop sharing contracts plantation owners used on black Americans to keep them bound to the corporate land.

Now these contracts have become even more onerous. They even include mechanisms to stop workers from starting their own companies. They can’t start their own company? That’s illegal, or it should be. If Congress were to wake up and overturn this anti-Democracy and this very communist right-wing clause that even Democrats have let happen.

Starting new businesses is the engine and innovation of American capitalism. Non-compete clauses have been weaponized to stop even that. It’s the autocratic tendencies from amassing too much power and wealth that has drowned out the American democratic sense and inalienable rights that has taken over their brains of CEOs, shareholders, and mega-owners to lock in their power and increase their wealth by eliminating competition. They have grown again into titans of industry, monopolists bordering on fascism with state sanctioned protections. How is that not like abuse of…
