Nixon was no dictator. He actually was Quaker educated, believed in people on the bottom being ignored, and as VP urged the president to pass the first civil rights bill since the 15th amendment, which was followed by the second one three years later, setting the stage for the next two. If you believe in cartoon villainy, then great. But if you watch the interviews of him after his resignation in the 1980s, you’ll find someone far more intelligent and attuned to international politics than anyone but Carter. Trump is one the opposite end of the spectrum, lacking a sense of humanity and interest in the people. Most people don’t review the real person’s learning and politics beyond a spoon fed cardboard image. I’m not defending his actions but only noting before the MAGA conservatives quit the Deomocratic Party in mid August and went over to the Republican Party they now have taken over, American politics was a different place.
