Mob violence is what killed over 12,000 black Americans, and probably many more in the MAGA conservative states of the Confederate. These white supremacist conservatives are pro one to maximum threat and maximum violence. It’s their way of life, and their worldview. In 1901 Senator Albert J. Beveridge supported Oklahoma becoming a state, because there was enough whites there controlling it. But did not support Arizona or New Mexico because there weren’t enough, and they were still largely full of “savages: “[God] has made us the master organizers of the world to establish a system where chaos reigns . . . He has made us adept in government that we may administer government among savages and senile peoples.” He described the native indigenous and latinos as intellectually incapable of understanding the concept of self-governance.”
Alabama Senator Hugo Black who served for ten years was a member of the Klan before being elected and he espoused anti-Catholic sentiment as well. He declared “Before becoming a Senator I dropped the Klan. I have had nothing to do with it since that time. I abandoned it.” Yeah, right, your brotherhood that gave him a “grand passport” for life and who he swore an oath to suddenly dropped them like rancid meat. Yeah, right. The murders of black continued and no white went to jail. They had a brutal convict leasing program that was investigate federally in after 1901 when Roosevelt came to power, but nothing came of it and they keep their program and methods of leasing. Lord knows how much raped of black women occurred.
Senator Sam Ervin of N. Carolina) was a Harvard trained lawyer, who advised the sheriff in Erwin in 1927 before becoming senator, in his role as attorney for Burke County, NC, that county officials invoked the outlaw provision of the North Carolina constitution which permitted any citizen to kill a declared outlaw without formal charges being brought. That allowed for all the white men to grab their guns and hunt down Broadus Miller, a black man “alleged” of committing an assault on a white women. They went out with this official permission to hunt down and kill an “outlaw” even though formal charges were not brought. And thus they found Miller int eh woods and killed him.
Keep in mind Senator Strum Thurmond who declared after the 1954 Brown v. Board decision that “[A]ll the laws of Washington and all the bayonets of the Army cannot force the Negro into our homes, into our schools, our churches and our places of recreation and amusement.” Then he drew up the “Southern Manifesto” which basically acted like a threat to seceded if integration was forced and 99 senators and congressmen signed it. These are people with such serious hate in their hearts they were always willing to go to extreme lengths for segregation and repression of black Americans and women that no violence or “mob” violence was good enough.
When exactly did all that violence leave their hearts? I don’t recall. These people are federal politicians, not local ones or sheriffs, or even their followers on the committing the “mob” violence. They “mobbed” up to drive out and to shoot up black men organizing peacefully to vote in 1979 in the Greensboro massacre. In 1980 they won their battle finally to kill integration of schools, which only had been 10 percent integrated at the time. Northerners like me were pretty ignorant at their battle and success at killing integration in an amendment passed in 1980 under Santor Jesse Helms, a tru virulent homophobe, racist, and bestie of Strum.
The biggest problem I’ve begun to see recently how white liberals, especially white ones outside the 15 southeastern slave states and their their boarder allies, don’t take these MAGA conservatives seriously despite the violence, intimidation, threats, and murder. In October 2022 a black man in rural Mississippi called his mom to let her know he was being chased by two whites in pick up truck with a gun rack. He was found a couple days later with his head three feet from his body and another body part detached next to him. The coroner agreed with the sheriff and on his report attributed the death to “natural causes.” The state FBI was called in and said “that looks about right.” In North Carolina a group of klanman threatened a small town black mayor when he tore a small tinny confederate statue down, then they distribute flyers attacking him, leaving them on people’s driveway. When the mayor reported the threats and turned the klan flyers over to the state FBI, they arrested him as a prime suspect for distributing the flyers. These are people in the system, not outside of it, that are full of racist intent, carrying guns, making laws.
There have been dozens of black murders like questionable lynchings labeled “suicide” that were clearly not, stretching back to the 1979 massacre. It’s seems clear the white mob violence never left the system. These are NOT “clowns”, but organized groups the like Nazis who just marched in Nashville. The groups small but represent a much deeper and widespread threat built in to the system. Making fun of them is not realizing the depth of depravity that the violent white mobs have done, are doing, and are ready to commit to. Watching these Colberts and Kimmels make fun of Trump and Mike Pillow guy and Marge Green types is being dismissive and minimizing the threat and violence of their followers, which are legion. Black and Latinos suffer disproportionate arrests and intimidation by the cops, especially in areas the politicians label “high crime” which means “black area.” Despite whites being bigger drug users and distributors, the average person like your readers still see an image of young black men when thinking of “drug dealers” and wanting more police for “drugs.” The NIH published a report showing the richer the population, moving up from the bottom 10 percent of the country to the stop, the more drugs are used, not less. Despite the overwhelming proof this abuse of all drugs occurs at higher rates in middle and upper class areas, we still send more police into the poorest and blackest areas. It’s because we don’t take the white conservative hatred seriously. Their severe overtaxing for over militarization of police forces to send into poor “back and brown” areas has been because of the endless fear and violence these white supremacists promote and vote for that white liberals on both coasts routinely make fun of.
The white conservatives in the southeast and midwestern states have always threatened the liberals, and the liberals always laugh it off and don’t take it seriously. They speak back meekly and the politicians like Schumer and Schiff, well meaning whites, sounds like little mice to MAGA conservatives, about 67 percent of the party. The truth is liberals don’t know how to stand up against them and haven’t since after the Civil War. The confederates never stopped fighting; the liberals forgot how. Read Senator Charles Sumner’s speech in 1860 supporting the election of Lincoln,. He was a ‘radical’ pro-black abolitionist from Massachusetts and you’ll see he sounds nothing like any white man in the 20th and 21st century. He roared like a lion, instead of peeped like mouse. Those liberals are gone and we are left with AOC and Bernie, a couple stray people perhaps making moderately decent statements. But hardly a chorus of angry voices ready to shot down the racial rants and homophobic slurs gushing
voraciously and vociferously out from the MAGA conservatives inside and outside the beltway.
