Let’s Not Have a Black President
That’s Something I Thought I Wouldn’t Say Out Loud
Perhaps it’s a little bit shallow to admit to, lacking in depth of thought, but I voted for Obama in the primary because he was black. Sure, he was an inspiring orator and went to a top school, there’s that, but many of the worst racist politicians in our history had these qualities as well. Still, I basically concluded he was different from those type of white males with a similar pedigree based on his color and that was a good reason, even if only skin deep.
But now I have to start thinking, just going to by appearances, simply associating black politicians as positive for America. I’m still burned by that whole Herschel run-off with Warnock. I actually had to consider character on who to donate to if I choose to send in a ten spot. Fortunately, a couple articles on Herschel’s abortion payments, brain-injuries from football, and a bunch of illegitimate children who popped up made the decision. (Though I did confirm Warnock’s character by watching a couple interview clips and he turned out to outstanding character, love of democracy, and a deep well of empathy toward the poor, suffering, and underclass that made him easy to support).
However, the reflection time for the next election may be longer for me when confronted by a black man seeking power. What took five minutes, then went to…
