I’ve read your views and options for a while now, and seen your willingness to engage in controversies by putting your self out there. But his is the worst of it. And by the worst of it I mean your best piece. It makes me so furious to hear directly from some one thoughtful and reflective and trying to engage in a difficult topic about race get pulled over and absolutely abused and threaten for a worthless, minor infraction of loud music. Really just a fake and transparent pretext for pulling over a black man. I’m very upset about hearing of this abuse.
I’ve been stopped a few times, once “rolling” through a stop side on a side street but in a school zone. I of course had no fear of physical danger and worry when reaching for my wallet, and was use upset to get a ticket. Another time ten years later I rolled through a stop sign in a unite suburban neighborhood, the Asian cop let me off with a stern warning and no ticket. I let him give the warning, which was uncalled for, because I didn’t get the ticket. I got away with the warning probably because I was white (full disclosure, I did roll through the stop sign then.)
But his is unacceptable. This is the pure evil type of systemic racism cops plague black men with especially. I’m horrified, I’m angry this happened to you. I wish I could do something not help, like write to cop’s boss and mayor. Seriously. I actually did write to a stop government official last month about the outrage I saw of a fellow writer of yours about the “black dummies”. I’ll have to pot it to prove it though. Best of luck.
