It is not a belief. Laws starting in 1676 in the British American colony and spreading with American slavery prevented from marrying whites. The Supreme Court overturned those laws in 1967 with the Loving decision. White men made and enforced that law. Not “negroes” or black Americans, who were forced to live under it.
