I'm just going out on a limb and saying it WAS the demands by an 'outspoken' black man for a white sheriff to be prosecuted that got him killed. McCall was obviously a klansman and was humiliated by a black publically accusing him. He was hell bent on revenge and since he was sheriff no one could stop him and his deputies would only help him.
Moore was clearly a hero speaking truth to power with dignity and demanding justice. He deserves a holiday in Florida named after him. Maybe for the 500th year of the first black slave arriving him Florida in 1526 (see my recent article about this day of celebration coming up in 2026 and I'll meet you there!).
