I would rather live in The Netherlands in poverty than Burundi as middle class. Many countries awash in poverty can’t be compared to the poverty of Europe. It’s better to look at the average unadjusted non-PPP average yearly and the transparency index ranking of a country to get to inequality than the inequality index. Poverty is a deeper problem than an inequality gap. As an American child who was on food stamps with a single father in the early 1980s, I can tell you I lived better than then many in Africa of Bangladesh do today. Oh, and Burundi has no middle class.
