I was born in Niagara county and still have family there. I can tell you that I believe you have a couple mistakes in your analysis. I did see and read about this case, and did read Know Mr Name from Chanel Miller about the Brock Turner case. First off, you say that this isn’t “normal white privilege.” I have to disagree. Yes it is. The county contains a concentrate smaller black population concentrated in Niagara Falls, most working class, and most of the town is white working class. The population of the county is relatively working class and a dominant blue color attitude prevails. There are a couple smaller universities, but not like Harvard and mostly local and small, so any elitist attitude is confined to semi-rich lawyers and businessmen. This mean the family of the rapist. As we heard in the video, the parents are lawyers and a businessman. Given the small size of the county, they invariably know the judge on a professional and mostly likely a personal level. The parents, the judge and the other small amount of rich people in the county and Lockport will cover for each other. If there wasn’t a bribe, then there was a high social connection going on that has not been brought to light and the judge’s sentence reflects that social connection of the rich, hence normal white privilege. Thus, although I honestly had to laugh at the Simone Biles of Judges comment, in truth, because he is one of the few judges and cannot be criticized because of his position, he doesn’t have to be close to Simone Biles to pull this off. Given his age, I’m guessing he has never personally faced internet outrage and never has his decisions called into question. The judge in the Brock Turner case faced backlash because he lived in a Uber Wealthy [pun intended] Silicon Valley elite San Francisco area and the crime took place on Stanford, ‘the’ elitist intellectual west coast university. The petition organized by Brock’s victim got widely signed and then a vote was allowed to recall the judge, he lost the vote and was thus admonished in a way by losing his job and being publicly humiliated. In this case, there is not the super wealthy and any Uber wealthy in Niagara county. Just general middle class survival and grim winters. Don’t expect local organization to recall the judge. There could be internet outrage, and an internet petition to recall the judge. I would sign it. Secondly, most importantly, in Niagara county you have Niagara Falls, and there is a series of islands for tourists that over look the falls called Goad Island. Unfortunately the goats are long since dead that the island was named after, so I doubt he stuck his wiener in a goat. It could have been cow, or most like some one at the strip clubs on the Canadian side. Most likely, he just knew the family and that white privilege connection was enough. [I wouldn’t mind hearing about a picture if found]. At the end of the day, the feds won’t investigate, the internet won’t petition, and the outrage, unfortunately, will die down. This serial rapist will still be on the streets, not behind bars, where he belongs.
