I think he might be trying to say that had his employer not found out he was a nudist bisexual he would have been fired. Instead he may have passed as a straight white man like many white gay men did. It was speculated that president Harrison was gay, the only permanent bachelor in the White House and a civil rights believer. He never spoke of his orientation (it was 1880 when he ran) so we’ll never know.
