I saw this interview about a month ago and it is as excellent and relevant now as then. However, I had no idea of them having called Baldwin that horrible slur and “has-been.” He remains a great American and his bravery of coming out was super brave and aspiring now and then as well. A true pioneer. “Is there still a chance for a black writer today?” Baldwin answer: “There never was a chance.” His prescience and vast success is the answer that shows the result of speaking out and preserving.
