I misread the sentence due to my mild dyslexia and saw Black people are not causing this depravity, then quickly reread it and saw disparity. But I think depravity fits the situation here as well. The white men are causing this depravity. It’s very sadly nothing new, this horrendous attack on black American women, and their babies. Name that decade when they were.
I was watching this documentary from 1965 about Mississippi where they interviewed black Americans and white ones around the Oxford area. Listening to the white district attorney speak about race relations was interesting. He spoke openly about how unfair it was. If black Americans get into the justice system they would be treated far better than whites. White men would be treated harshly by comparison, and it was just unfair. I had to rewind a couple times to hear this white lawyer and district attorney from the county say how white men had it worse in the criminal justice system than black men. He was saying this straight faced, openly and what looked like honestly. Truly shocking to hear their mentality and the expression of a belief that is the opposite of reality. The reality was clearly visible though. If the documentarians didn’t interview the black Americans and show their living conditions, a foreigner or northerner in 1965 would get the impression that whites had it really bad and the justice system was stacked against them. Of course he was the district attorney and knows the real history. But the rhetoric those whites use is truly mind bending. And used to strip black women of much needed programs deserved from the vast historical injustices perpetrated against them.
Thanks as always for the great crisp insights.
