I loved this story rich in complexity of details and the wonderful sharing of personal struggles and joyful experiences. The discoveries made about the theft come from direct experiential confrontation, like in this detail. The gold was probably stolen from Ghana or some place, either using local labor at repressed prices or melted of stolen trophies from their royalty. Now it is used to gilt a palace to enhance white monarch status and worship, to greater reverence of the line of ancestors who stole it and used it. It is just like the jewels in Charles the Third’s crown, stolen from Africa and maybe a few from elsewhere. But still great experiences in seeing how black Britons were honored with statues and music. Hope your second half of the trip was as beautiful. Thanks for shining your light for us.
