I have to agree that Trump won because of women, and that history is laced with bigoted women siding with bigoted men. When I moved to the South a couple decades ago in grad school, I could feel it—white women would not be seen back then in the 1990s with a black man and did want them.
But the issue is that the Republicans have full control of the rhetoric and argument structure. Here’s this basic and easy to prove man is more dangerous than a bear nonsense, because men are encounter and bears aren’t, so it’s not speculative: 95 percent of sexual assault cases or more are from men. In most states and cities, less than 10 percent get reported. Of those reported, less than 1 percent get prosecuted. Prosecution should mean holding people to account, which is what occurs before a verdict of innocent or guilt. When Eugene Carroll had her say in a civil trial, not even a criminal one, many, many women cheered her afterwards and expressed support. That outcome was powerful and encouraging, and if done constantly for the 99 percent of sexual assault victims would have a definitive impact on sexual assault. It was that Trump wasn’t found criminally “guilty,’ or that he paid one cent yet, it was that maybe a million women felt heard and supported.

So why won’t that happen? Why can’t the our government fund this type of civil prosecution at a minimum? Democrats don’t talk about this solution, because it would, get this, “cost too much.” Oh no, a two party system that allocated $1.94 Trillion dollars for total allocated DoD military spending for the Department of War can afford such a system to protect women by letting them have their say? Really? The Dems suck because they don’t want to speak in these concrete terms, because if they do, they will expose who they really are—white republicans, of both sexes.
