I have read the information on that book and how gynecology was created by “experimenting” on black women, which is horrible. I’ve read the accounts of how black men were used as “studs” to produce more slaves during the 1800s when slave breeding happened. It appears from my research that more often than not it was the masters deliberately breeding with the enslaved woman, which of course was cheaper and ”easier” to do. The incentive was clear: when adjusted for inflation, the average sale price of a black child in the 1800s climbed throughout those decades from $12,000 to $25,000 or more, depending on the market conditions. There were a lot of speculators. Of course that meant this unprecedented opportunity to generate wealth through the sale of 6 to 8 year old children mean unprecedented depravity committed on black women who were used as “breeders,” expected to produce 20-25 children.
In this cotton era, when slavery reached new heights of white depravity against black Americans, it seems one man reason to introduce this study of women were for better “breeding” practices, as the more was known about black women’s ‘ability’ to produce ‘healthy’ offspring, the more valuable she was to those she served. The environment of bad treatment stems I think from this white habitual use of black American women as objects. It is truly remarkable how worse this white state sanctioned system of government became to traumatize a group of humans already kidnapped from the homelands. Thanks for sharing your insights.
