Hierarchy is about complying with the rich to get ahead. That is the real structure of “tyranny” as the founders called it in the Declaration of Independence. The opposite of that political structure is stated there, “unalienable rights.” Unfortunately, that was a new political system and couldn’t defeat the old one so easily. Hierarchy has great power in being run the by rich who can use their vast wealth, stolen from the labor of the poor, and dole it out to those allies who support them who in turn must be grateful to maintain their position and gather additional allies underneath them. Most people think they can simply legislate away inequality, not realizing it is a deeply practice and successful form of governance globally for the last 4,000 years since writing was invented. It is also instinctual, a survival of the fittest mentality built into the genes. Equality and Liberty for all is not truly “self-evident” as all, which was only stated as “a threat”, a statement to obviate the oppositional and brand new governing ideal of inherent natural rights. It seems intuitive that the “meek shall inherit the earth” and the “last shall be first,” that everyone should be provided for especially in this land of plenty, but those are not the normal, human and animal tendencies buried deep in the brain and accessible to those when when cave into anger and threat.
