Political beliefs dominate conclusions of official scientific organizations. Gays, homosexuals, lesbians, today known as LGBTQI+, in the 1950s were “lightly” socially prosecuted. So, how can it happen that political ideology overrode the scientific method in scientific organizations, and does it still go on today?

That frustration from the inability to love who they wanted combined with this “light” prosecution during the “Red Scare” period, helped fuel in part The Stonewall event that led to the modern movement out of the closet and to the wedding chapel. I’m giving my two cents as a straight white man, but before you condemn me you should know a bit of my background (unless you are a Christian conservative, then you should reflexively jump to the comment section and condemn me).

I come from a northeastern background of liberal professors who questioned everything, yet too much. It led to their acrimonious divorce, which they both regretted but at the same time didn’t. They both quit the Catholic Church, but it took a long time to do so. My father had to get a PhD in theology as a “lay person” starting in the 1950s, one of the first of two in North America to get one who was not ordained by some sect, Jewish or Christian.
