The “Reverence Principle” of Authority
People are trained to think about a coup as the minority of outsiders overthrowing the government. But what we saw streamed live was a coup. It was the representatives of Tennessee using their power to expel two black representatives. So how is that a coup?
I searched the media for signs of the recognition it was a coup by watching a bunch of clips of interviews with the two blacks expelled and analysis. And only once in about a dozen times was the issue raised, the crux of the matter: So who is representing the people now? Unfortunately, the answer did not emerge, and another question or issue was addressed. That’s the closest I got.
It’s not shocking. There is a long-term continual conditioning that sometimes hints at the main core of our founders’ beliefs. The media constantly frames the narrative in style that reverses the viewpoint of democracy, because the reverence we give the president historically goes to a monarch or empower in autocracies.
The question is abstract in principle and easy to understand, but in practice it is not seen. That’s why I refrain from directly mentioning the core message at the start. It is simply too easy to understand the concept and speak in generalities, but also it then becomes too easy to ignore the practice…
