But don’t forget that children are deeply affected by mass shootings outside of school. For 2023, the gun archive lists the total mass shootings at 646. Those can occur anywhere a crowd is, which includes children, like a mall, causing terror. That list also does not include all the no knock raids by SWAT teams into houses. In the early 2000s alone there were 450 no knock cop raids using military tactics an no knock warrants in New York City alone. 45 were served not he wrong address and almost every other one only got a minor amount of drugs, mostly pot. Children in lower class mostly minority neighborhoods had doors kicked in in the middle of the night, with cops in military grade gear charging in and pointing guns at the heads of children in their beds. These raids inflicted mass terror. In the entirety of America the number of SWAT raids like this was 1. One. ‘The number skyrocketed in every decade. There were none before the Civil rights bills were passed.
Children can be terrorized everywhere and are by guns. That national press continually redefines how we should look at gun violence, limiting our view more and more on children in particular by talking of only school shooting. These mental narrative restriction eliminates more and more of the constant gun violence, and eliminates all the police no-knock raids that terrorize poor communities and targeted often at minorities. The perspective should be widened to see the overall daily madness, that happens nowhere outside a war zoned country, any country, expect perhaps Brazil.
