Sometimes I can’t quite put my finger on the issue affecting black American history. Could it be whites? Today I was lucky to connect two recent events from the past few months to hear what the message is from the white politicians, and how whites in both parties see black Americans.

One party to repress directly; the other to give some scarps to them off the table. It is one key facet in the language of white leaders that reveals who they are, and they don’t seem to have any type of message that isn’t looking down unequally.

“One of the things that we have not done a good job of doing is showing the successes of this administration,” said Marvin Pendarvis, a state representative from North Charleston. He added that the campaign will need to curate a message “so that Black voters understand that this administration has done some of the most transformational things as it relates to Black communities, to minority communities.”

Oh, they better understand — or else we’ll be forced to explain it into them? If “transformational things” were done to their community, you wouldn’t have to tell them. They live there. They would see it, feel it, and already know. The fact you have to come down from the cloud and tell them what transformed in their “black community” means you…
