At least there was a bit of humor in this grimly accurate assessment of democratic black American neglect. I think Biden knows that black Americans have nowhere else to go unless they are willing to go full Trump and plunge into the supremacist wing of the GOP. So Biden’s strategy is to stand in the middle, chat with some semi-centrist buddy Republicans from back in his senate days, gesture via tokenism to black Americans while having pushed aside that legislation and issues that could have a systemic change for black Americans: ban assault rifles bought up by whiters who want to feel the powerful hatred of supremacism in their hand when they grip this military weapon; pushing relentlessly for John Lewis Voting Rights Bill (whether it passes or not, pushing for relentlessly shows Black Lives Matter and his willingness to fight for them and their vote), passing HR 40 sitting on the senate floor since 1989 for Reparations (fighting for it relentlessly like last issue; apologizing for pushing for the Crime Bill that was passed in 1994 that he sponsored, saying that he did not know at the time so many blacks would be disproportionately caught up in trivial crimes and thrown in prison and seeing their lives and potential diminished with no education to help them when getting out. OK, that last one is a dream (sure he knew what would happen but an apology would be great start).
In reality you can dream on. He’s not going to fight relentlessly for you, to protect your vote, to right the obvious hatred and violence perpetrated against blacks during chattel slavery, during the 89 years of Jim Crow. I mean come on, really, his party of northern whites were the anti-black anti-civil rights party since 1843-1964. They were supported by the racist Blue state democrats in the South that entire time. And when those racists like Strom Thurmond left the Democratic Party in 64 and joined the Northern Republicans, who really didn’t want them, where did those northern democrats, their brothers who caucused with them for 121 years go? Nowhere. all those northern Democrats supporting their party memebers’ beatings and lynchings of blacks in the South when nowhere. Those Northern democrats who created sundown towns for whites only in New York State, Illinois, Missouri, a whole white county in Connecticut, segregating away that whole time, trapping the blacks in the inner city that they created by these sundown laws that led to redlining where did those segregationist democrats go? Nowhere. Those whites in charge of their northern racist half of the party stayed right their, never apologizing, never acknowledging their full participation in racist practices of segregating by housing division when blacks emigrated from the South.
They left you know where to go. But if you start the anti-supremacist and real pro-democracy Party, I’ll give you my vote.
