As much as I don’t like to say it, Obama was not right. The filibuster is not a Jim Crow Relic. It is a slavery relic (even worse). It started in 1840 and was created and used to repress any hope of black power until, well, until today. It must go if only for the moral reason that is was deliberately and consciously born in the time of slavery to repress any votes that would even help slaves from getting a ray of light Congress could pass a law helping or freeing them. And that is the way it stayed until Mitch (though some others in the decades before him used it) came along and buried everything, over 400 proposed pieces of legislation from even being talked about and debated. Only one, only one Senator needed to send an email to block a piece of legislation from reaching the floor for discussion under Mitch. That’s not democracy, that’s authoritarianism. That’s is the attitude of slave holders, one master with the whip. And Mitch is the whip. (What another racist term Congress still uses: the minority whip.)
