Another shocking one. Thanks for telling of this troubling tale and finding the lost humanity of those auctioned off. I felt like that is how corporate America built up its indifference to workers. Ten million dollars in sales in one day is a huge any company. It takes planning, marketing the excitement, careful short delays at the last minute to cause a bit of frustration among the buyers, an experienced auctioneer. I wouldn’t be surprised if the auctioneer wait a day for the rain to start, just to add pressure on the buyers to bid and go home. For the workers, it was all doom and gloom no matter then weather. They were undone. Their tragic stories—like one repeated here that thankfully survived—resonated only to themselves, their loved ones that stood with on those dreary days, and outward through history to those of us listening who still care.
