AI for writing may be boring repetitive nonsense with no insights, but AI is a bit different. I use it because I can create something related to my story, make it strange and then creatively think of a Title for the picture that brings out some unique connection to the story. I might not succeed in this lofty ambition, but what previously bother me was the pictures offered were sort of bland. Ask for a picture of money and you get stuff that looks generic, almost like AI generated. Someone though, I’ll take lots of pictures of money, upload them to make some money of their usage. I don’t know what they make, but it’s probably not much.
Also, the creativity in part is the combination of ideas related to the story in “designing” the AI image. I’m not an artist and paying for it time consuming and expensive my return on investment from writing will one or two pennies. Free is a good option. The challenge is to think what your story is really about. Is it just about money? How boring. What is the related insight you are trying to give that goes one step deeper than the generic word used to get picture. If find that exercise to prod me a bit and multiple word combinations don’t really work on the free stuff. I might change my practice and like to evolve over time.
Also, some popular writing gets worse. I say the Marvel movies with my daughter and it grew on her and she watched the Infinity war thing twice. When I went back to watch the She-Hulk, we found it boring and missing any zing. I cancelled the app. Marvel seems to water down it’s new stuff to get more kids, losing its edge.
For a small booklet I wrote, I did use a professional artist and it was worth it and satisfying. I first used an artist I found on Fivrr that didn’t charge much and it was kind of generic as the site seems flooded with workers from developing countries where $15 dollars for an hours work is a lot. Then I looked for a higher end one, in Georgia (the country not the state) and paid maybe a hundred and fifty. It felt like a lot at the time, but it was well worth it and I still feel satisfied.
