After I read a bunch about the controversy I saw his special where he spoke to the school he went to, and then saw the Closer, followed by this monologue. Man, he was funny. The jokes he said above fall flat if: you don’t hear him perform, or have a sense of humor. But then of The Closer was truly humane and moving. He really showed the difference between critiques and actions of compassion. He gave deep compassion to the trans woman he befriended and gave a chance to as a comedian. The ending was heartbreaking, and he set up a fund for the child of the trans woman who committed suicide. It wasn’t an argument, he showed, a series of generalizations on paper or in an article, but a deeply moving ACT of human compassion.
