Actually you’d be surprised that a soldier’s body is owned by the government when they are in the military. Owned. Militaristic thinking cares about ownership, and the woman who owns her own body is one that must be controlled. What is owned is controlled. The arrogance that she can choose what happens to the person inside her, instead of the government, specifically the male governor, irks the white male GOP to no end. Texas cut Medicaid to the mother after she had the baby, and cut support, and it is a state with one of the highest rates of infant mortality in a first world country that has the highest rate of infant mortality. Why do more babies die at a higher rate in Texas after being born than elsewhere? It’s not about the baby. It’s about the white male Republican being in control. (To compound that, black women in Texas have double the rate of infant mortality than white women.)
